Scatter Plot

A scatter plot is a type of statistical chart used to display the relationship between two numeric variables on a coordinate system. It allows us to observe the data sample and determine the relationship between two variables, if any, by displaying data points on the chart.

In a scatter plot, each data point is represented on the coordinate system as a dot. The horizontal axis usually represents the independent variable, while the vertical axis usually represents the dependent variable. If there is a relationship between the two variables, we will see the data points clustered closely together or following a certain shape on the chart. Scatter plots also allow for the detection of outliers and the distribution of data.

Features of Scatter Plot

1. Companies and Group of Companies

The user can select up to 500 companies to display on the Scatter plot feature.

Users can individually select each business or choose pre-classified groups of corporations based on their own portfolio, index or industry groups

For group selection, after choosing the appropriate group of businesses based on filtering criteria, users can filter again based on two criteria: Stock exchange listing and Market capitalization.

After selecting the appropriate companies, users can choose the entire or a part of the final list and click Apply.

2. Templates

Selecting a template allows you to download pre-configured templates.

The system allows for renaming, deleting, or copying saved forms.

3. Selected items

The stocks selected in step (1) will appear here, and users can remove any selected stocks here.

If the user selects companies manually (not by group), each company will have its own color. However, if the user selects by group, the color will be determined by the selected group.

4. Scatter plot type

FiinPro-X currently has two types of scatter plots: Point in time and Time series.

Point in time: is a scatter plot that displays the correlation of each company as a point on the chart, consisting of two selected indices on the X and Y axes.

Time Series: is a scatter plot similar to Point in time, but instead of displaying only one point, each company will have multiple different points to display, each point corresponding to a point in time in the past of the company within the time range selected by the user.

The significance of the time series chart allows users to see the correlation between two indicators of a company or sector group not only at a certain point in time but also including a series of past time frames. The illustration will help users analyze the characteristics of a company more clearly, based on a series of past time frames.

5. X-axis

The list of indices that can be displayed on the X-axis is similar to indices in other features on the system such as Smart Screening and Data Explorer.

After selecting the indicators to be displayed, the user selects the time frame to show the index value at that time frame.

6. Y-axis

The list of indices that can be displayed on the Y-axis is similar to indices in other features on the system such as Smart Screening and Data Explorer.

After selecting the indicators to be displayed, the user selects the time frame to show the index value at that time frame.

7. Bubble size

In the Scatter plot, the size of the points can be changed by users.

Based on demand, users can choose the size of the Bubble on the chart for specific indices or Constraint (points of the same size).

8. Bubble color

The color of the points is selected between Constraint and By group.

Constraint: all points on the chart will be displayed in the same color.

By group: Each group will be assigned a unique color code. A group is defined to include Watchlist, sector groups, and index groups. Displaying colors by group helps users easily distinguish the correlation trends of each index group within a group.

9. Reset

The indicators are restored to their default settings so that users can create a new chart.

10. Scatter plot interface

The graph is constructed based on two axes: the vertical axis (y) and the horizontal axis (x) corresponding to the two values selected in the configuration table.
